NIGHTMARE

I was walking where the light fell thin Moonlight laid across my skin Every room still held your trace Every silence knew your face Shadows moved where you had been Soft as breath against my skin Something lingered in the air Like your love was waiting there I could feel you closing in Like a memory under skin Every heartbeat knew your name Every shadow fed the flame You came back like a nightmare Standing in the cold night air I could run but I’d still find you there You came back like a nightmare Nightmare Closer Nightmare Under my skin I crossed the dark where daylight drowned Where sleeping sins rose from the ground The sky bent low, the stars turned black And every shadow whispered back No more footsteps, no more chase Only truth I could not face What I buried in my sleep Followed me out from the deep I could feel you closing in Like a memory under skin Every heartbeat knew your name Every shadow fed the flame You came back like a nightmare Standing in the cold night air I could run but I’d still find you there You came back like a nightmare You came back like a nightmare Nightmare Closer Nightmare Under my skin All the wounds I would not feel All the dreams I could not seal All the love I let grow deep Found its voice inside my sleep You came back like a nightmare Standing in the cold night air I could run but I’d still find you there You came back like a nightmare Nightmare Closer Nightmare Under my skin
